Something Strange in the neighbor- hood

Who you gonna McCall?

Last year, my sister and I once again teamed up for Halloween costumes for our kids. We went with a Ghostbusters theme and Shae took some amazing photos in downtown OKC.

We bought the costumes, so we didn’t get too creative on that end. But the hat that came with the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man costume I bought for Halston was not working at all. It looked ridiculous, had weird extra layers that I wasn’t sure what to do with, and really distracted from the look. It looks so much better on the product page. So last minute, as always, I decided to make a new hat for her. I ain’t afraid of no challenge.

I knew we had a dress up chef hat that would work perfect. I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased blue ribbon, red ribbon, a button cover maker, and some white alphabet stickers.

I hot glued the blue ribbon around the base, cut and applied the red ribbon to the top center. And then attached the new blue button cover on top of that. The blue ribbon gets a little tricky around the velcro closure, so I ended up adding a small blue piece in that area once she tried the hat on. I was rushed for time, but I bet you could avoid that if you just put the hat on your kid before measuring the length of the ribbon needed. “Measure twice, cut once.”

I added the stickers starting from the center and working my way out. I knew our stickers would not stay on very long, but I only needed them to last the day! If you want yours to last forever, I’m sure iron-ons would work great.

Lastly, I stuffed a couple of pillow cases in it to make sure it was nice and plump. This hat made ALL the difference in her marshmallow man costume, and we have the most adorable photos to mark the day!
