class treATS

No Tricks.

Last Halloween, I volunteered to bring the party favors for McCall’s class party. The teacher requested no candy/ food items. So I set off to find some cheap party favors.

But the cheap party favors aren’t the cutest, so I decided to jazz them up a bit. I bought these party favors:

spider rings

snakes

pencils

pumpkin cups (these were only $1 each last year)

bubbles

To make the spider extra cute and cuddly, you just need a pom pom and glue gun. I bought these pom poms and hot glued them on the body of the spider for such a simple transformation.

For the little bubble wands, I decided to turn them into witch brooms. So I cut little trapezoid shapes in various colors of cardstock (I was not a perfectionist about the cuts). I did a test fit, then used that as a rough template.

Next, I cut small slits in the trapezoids. Again, I just eyeballed it. Just be sure to leave 1/2” or so at the top uncut.

I rolled the paper around the lid of the bubbles, starting at the edge of the paper. The longer your strip of paper, the more layers of “bristles” you will have. Then I hot glued the paper to itself. I tied a thin ribbon around the paper and added a dab of hot glue to the ribbon so it would stay in place.

For the little sssssnakes, I picked out the green and orange to go with my color scheme. (Don’t worry, I have plans for the remainder). Then I simply cut a little piece of thin pink ribbon into short lengths and cut two small angles at the end to give it a tongue shape. Then, you guess it, I hot glued it on the underside of the snake’s face.

For the pencils, I created a haunting ghost topper. I bought these styrofoam balls and simply drew some eyes and a mouth on them, then cut the tulle to the right lengths. I inserted the pencil into the ghost heads. Then I layered a few pieces of tulle on them, and tied them with the ribbon.

To assemble the non-candy treats together, I placed the snake around the cup’s straw, tied a ribbon around the top of the cup and placed the spider on the ribbon, and inserted the pencil in the cup so the ghost could hover above.

These were all super easy little crafts that made the cheap party favors a little more fun!
