KIPS BAY DECORATOR SHOW HOUSE - DALLAS

Recently, a good friend and fellow designer based out of San Antonio told me about the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. She had gone to their NY house in June and loved it. Despite being in the industry for two decades, I had never heard of it but was excited to see one for myself.

When I was in college, my class took part in our local Symphony Show House, refreshing a Primary Bathroom. We did a lot of the work ourselves; I specifically remember all of the work painting over the wallpaper. I’m pretty sure this is where I learned the phrase “smoke and mirrors”, at least it’s where I put it into practice.

And while I love a house tour, I don’t recall going to a Show House since then. So I was excited to see what other designers are up to.

Here’s the top 3 trends I noticed:

1) English influence - plaids, cozy rooms, and oh so regal. Canopy beds upon canopy beds, and even the late Queen Elizabeth makes a couple of appearances. One, fittingly, in the throne room.

2.) Ceilings want to have fun too - wallpapers, ombre paint, antique mirrored tile, and not one, but two rooms featuring a high gloss/lacquer ceiling.

3.) We heart curtains - curtains on cased openings, curtains down the hall, curtains lining the walls, two story curtains, and as mentioned above, the curtained canopy beds. Curtains everywhere.

I noticed quite a few rooms used ceiling tracks for curtains, which is something I’ve recently started specifying as well. I love the clean look of them!

These designs have me all refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on some more remodels!
