Down the Rabbit HOle

a mad halloween party

The last couple of years my sister and I have teamed up on the costume themes for our girls. We transported them to the land of Oz in 2021, and last year they fell down the rabbit hole.

When you’re dressing up as characters from one of the most famous tea parties in history, you are required to throw the party right?

My sister and I both love a party, so we collaborated to create this adorable Mad Hatter Tea Party. From the get go, I knew it should be whimsical and not too dark. I wanted it to be child like, and not so serious. I wanted color. Luckily, my sister is a photographer and she has accumulated quite the colorful chair selection for her shoots. These were perfect for the party and really set the tone.

When I say we threw it together, we threw it together. I think the only items I bought for the party were the purple tablecloth, giant playing cards, and the pink yard flamingos. Most of the items I already had sitting around the house. Shae brought out some old books and keys from her house too, and it just all fell in place as easy as Alice fell down that….

The grass table runner and place mats were from McCall’s second birthday party, the sequin tablecloth was from the cake table at my wedding. The china finally had its day in the sun. And you might recognize the chess piece from this. The potion bottles were vases I already had on hand. I just printed out a small and large drink me sign and tied them on.

The girls loved the potion; they said it tasted just like lemonade. The cinnamon rolls spiraled like the rabbit hole itself. But their favorite part was hanging out with their cousins.

And I’m happy to report no ankles were twisted on our little rabbit hole.

*Most of the photos are provided by my sister at keeneyephotography.com. She’s a creative genius, so hopefully one day she’ll have a blog on her site too.
