A Day After...My Own Heart

Happy Day After Valentine’s

Thanks to our old friend Covid, we had an extended Christmas this year and just wrapped up (or unwrapped) our last celebration on February 4. Dangerously close to Valentine’s. But it’s ok, I started preparing the girls Valentine’s gifts during the wait.

I bought these Meri Meri heart suitcases from Bonjour Fete, along with the heart lollipop. I got the tic tac toe boards, and the gumball machine jars (that they were just loading on the shelves when I snatched them up) at Hobby Lobby. I used left over ribbons from Christmas to tie bows around the items. I had to include a heart shaped bath bomb because my girls are bath bomb addicts. The candy and heart marshmallows were from Target. McCall was with me when I bought the marshmallows in January, and she never forgot about them. She was counting down to Valentine’s just for the marshmallows alone.

Total, I think I spent less than $50 on each basket, or I would have, had I not shattered one of the lollipops. The replacement cost is not included in that tally.

Halston woke up so excited about Valentine’s yesterday, and I was excited to give the girls their valentines. But I wanted to make it a little extra special for them.

I started scouring through my left over party supplies looking for something to decorate with. Then I spotted the crepe paper rolls, and knew the mission. I would COVER the dark grey fireplace with the crepe paper. This would add so much whimsy, so much drama, and cost so little!

So I grabbed my tape and got to work; it took about 2 hours for this impromptu install. I used about a roll of tape, 3 full rolls of crepe, and a couple of partial rolls. (Important tip: Don’t attempt while fireplace is on). I was so happy with how it turned out and couldn’t wait for them to get home from school. We did a whole unveiling for them and they absolutely LOVED it! They also had fun helping me “take it down”, which took all of a few minutes. I love a quick clean up! I hope it’s one of those days they’ll say, “remember that time” for years to come. Happy day after Valentine’s!
